It’s always better to test an idea before you fully commit to it, they say. Something something measure twice, cut once. The problem is I don’t know how to measure. I’ve done plenty of coding before, including simulations, but I’m just now realizing that I’ve never done a simulation over a non-discrete area or volume. I suppose I’ll just have to learn how, but if I’m going to get it done right I estimate it’ll take more than a week, maybe much more.

I’m not demoralized, really. The simulation is a major part of my project, so even if I end up taking a long time on it, I’ll be done with a lot of my total work when I finish. After I use the simulation to find out what mixture of padding and active noise cancelling will soundproof my room in the way I like, that’s basically the whole project, isn’t it? Then I just have to make it.

I’ll probably end up laughing at myself in a couple months from now for underestimating the implementation part, but I’ll do that when I get there. For now, things look good. I’ll update you again this Saturday or whenever I start figuring things out for my coding. See you then!
