About Me and My Project

I am a high school student on a mission to find nothing. What do I mean? I’m glad you asked (or didn’t). I have found over my few years that I work best in controlled, structured environments. Don’t get me wrong, I live for choice and variety in what I do — the more open my environment, the more creative I can be — but when it comes to implementing my ideas and actually doing the work, good old peace and quiet is my thing.

On the Fourth of July, 2026, as my neighbors set off their abundancy of fireworks, I decided I had to take matters into my own hands and do something about my own room’s shockingly poor sound insulation. My family and my neighbors often have guests over for backyard barbeques or dinners together, and while I truly appreciate the community, sometimes their noise levels can get a bit too loud for my tastes, especially when I’m trying to study or work on a new project. If you’ll excuse the lingo, their noisemaxxing prevents me from locking in.

However, as much as I enjoy quietude, I’m not a shut-in. Total sound isolation can sometimes distract me more than normal noise levels, which means the most obvious solution — padding my walls with foam — won’t work. The second most obvious solution, telling everyone around me to be quieter, isn’t viable either.

This project is an attempt to find a middle ground that works for me and my family. I consider myself to have a decent amount of technical skill and a passion for engineering (thank you high school engineering classes), so I’m hoping there’s a way for me to adjustably soundproof my own room.

To keep myself accountable for my project and schedule, and because I’m genuinely passionate about this and want to write about it without bothering my long-suffering friends with daily updates, I’ll be keeping a blog about what I’ve done, what I’ll be doing, and how it’s going. That’s what this website is for!
